We’ve left father, mother, children, lands

Prayer for safety

We’ve left father, mother, children, lands,
To lose our life for Christ in time’s quick sands,
To gain a hundredfold upon the earth,
And heaven’s streets of gold by spiritual birth.

No special merit do we, by this, accrue,
Naught do we earn among the faithful few,
But grace is ours in this surrendered call,
We followed Christ and gladly abandoned all.

We threw ourselves upon the rolling sea,
Enthralled to join our Master in the gale;
Hold us, mighty God, in storm and lee,
Preserve us as we tread beyond the pale.
