For those who reel from deepest grief,
Who cannot see the budding leaf,
For those consumed by sharp despair,
For these we make our daily prayer.
The Psalms that teach us about prayer
We have all had the frustration of being misunderstood. Our words were heard, but either we used the wrong words, or the hearer misconstrued the meaning. That never happens in Prayer. God will not only “Give ear to my words,” he will also “Consider my Meditation.” That is, he will think about what we think about. But even more, God will “hearken unto the voice of my cry.” God knows what we say, how we think, and how we feel. The Psalms that teach us about prayer teach us about God (Psalm 5:1-2).
Point them beyond a Sunday thought to a lifetime commitment
Father, I’m glad that many today are thinking of my risen Lord. May you use me to point them beyond a Sunday thought to a lifetime commitment of service to him as Savior of the world. Make my life an example of that commitment, with your words alive in my heart and sweet upon my tongue.
In heavy traffic and full agendas
May God the provider
of inner solace
in the midst of doubt
be the peace in our hearts today;
May Jesus our guide
in heavy traffic
and full agendas
be the hope in our hearts today;
May the Spirit of truth
among voices of error
which clamor for clout
be the strength in our hearts today.

A million voices speaking a million tongues over a million years
Come live with me, Your Omnipresence
Lead me, Lord, and I will follow.
Love, me, Father, then I’ll love again.
Purify me, O Holy One, to make me clean.
Come live with me, Your Omnipresence, and I’ll draw near to the lonely.
Strengthen me, Omnipotent God, so I may brace the weak.
Teach me, Omniscient Knower, and give me words to speak.
Fulfill in me your will, Finisher of Plans, that I might run the whole race.
Guide me, Purest Light, in my next step.
From my heart, O Father who knows men’s secrets
From my heart, O Father who knows the deepest secrets of men, I want to lay before you all that I am and think and feel and do. Sift through the chaff, bring forth the grain, and make my life a harvest of righteousness, the work of your hands.
Peel away the layers of years of man’s departures, Lord
Peel away the layers of years of man’s departures, Lord, to let me see your original intent for faith and service in your kingdom. In marriage Jesus spoke of the beginning, at creation. Paul went back to the beginning, when our Savior broke bread, to restore the proper way to eat the Lord’s supper. Thank you for revealing your pattern for the church. May we follow Jesus’ model faithfully.
The sweetest words to hear, O Lord, are those that speak of you
The sweetest words to hear, O Lord, are those that speak of you, your name, your works, your holy words, your grace, your promised home. No rich or famous fools, no stars, no idols, no human feats can swoon my heart, but only you, who loves and shows himself as God Almighty.
I ask for power from your Spirit for the inner person
Lord, I bow my knee before you as the Father of the great family scattered across the face of the earth, to ask for power from your Spirit for the inner person, for me and for all your children who serve you in love and faithfulness.
