Dear God, while American denominations focus on the state of the country on their National Day of Prayer, I pray today for the Lord’s church in the US.
Give them dedication to being like our Lord Jesus Christ.
Make them strong in truth, devoted in love to each other, determined in purity and holiness of life.
Energize them with fulfilling the mission of eternal salvation, rather than being taken with satisfying physical needs.
Keep congregations from dividing, either from selfish ambition or personality parties or groups distinguished by age, sex, or marital status.
May they stay the course, rejecting liberal and post-modern doctrines and seeing the trap of legalism.
Help them discover that their greatest assets are not material buildings or programs, and certainly not pulpit preachers, but the presence of your Spirit in their midst, the message of Christ upon their lips, and the hope of eternity at your side.
Oh, God, keep the world out of the church, and send the church into the world, for the salvation of souls and the glory of your name. Amen.
