You Look upon Us, with Mercy’s Eye

O ageless God, before the times began,
Your Spirit hovered above the world of man.
How small are we! How great your upraised hand!
The highest mountains flee at your command,
The valleys hide, with tremors in the land.

Beyond the stars, upon your throne of light,
You look upon us, with mercy’s eye, from height
Of heaven to human habitations, to seek
And save and bless the humble and meek.
See me among them — I who dare to speak!
