Unknown the evil face behind
Those gentle words and pleasant smiles;
So make me see, where others are blind,
The hidden intent of the devil’s wiles.
What passionless reason, kind advice,
Contained in such a calming voice,
Whose ways conceal a costly price
To make in faith a godless choice.
Turn me away from worldly appeals,
Which deal to all a deadly blow;
Direct me far from what man feels,
To follow the Word of life I know.
