Missionary Elizabeth Bernard born this day

On Facebook’s Friends of the Restoration group, Terry Gardner notes that, among others, Elizabeth Bernard was born on this day in 1890. She served for over 40 years in China.

Her mother asked her what would become of her, so Elizabeth took her mother with her.

On the same boat crossing the Pacific in 1933 were a “Dr. and Mrs. Taylor,” evidently, Howard, the son of J. Hudson Taylor, of China Inland Mission.

On arriving in Hong Kong, she said, “I suppose I will have a lot to forget, and an awful lot to learn.”

Roy Davison has put sister Bernard’s biography online. She is briefly mentioned in Phillip Eichman’s Medical Missions Among the Churches of Christ, also online.

Let us “honor people like” her (Philippians 2.29).
